Potatoes, salt and escaping octopus
Measurement: 100 X 70 cm.
Technique: acrylic on canvas
This work is inspired by my childhood and on the feeling of freedom I felt while looking at the sea.
While my grandmother “Nana” peeled the potatoes for boiling, my grandfather Manuel went to sea to fish octopus. Often the octopus arrived before she had peeled the potatoes and she put it in a pot until everything was ready for the stew.
During one of these pauses a large octopus started to move in the pot, and tried to escape out the window to the sea. I have recorded this scene in my memory.
I dedicate this painting to them both for all of the good times we had together.
Also the San Juan neighbourhood, the little port of Güímar, to the Socorro Mountain and to the Malpaís.
